Mastering the Metronome: Developing Rock-Solid Timing

Rhythm is the foundation. If your timing is weak, the most beautiful melody will sound amateur. The metronome is your most honest teacher.

1. The Metronome as a Pulse

Don't just play 'on' the beat; feel the pulse. We teach students to subdivide the beat into 8ths and 16ths in their head. This 'Inner Clock' is what makes Best music classes students sound so professional.

2. Speed Training

The secret to speed is starting slow. Increase the tempo by only 2-3 BPM once you can play a phrase perfectly 10 times. This patient approach is a core part of our Online Guitar class and piano curriculum.

3. Intentional 'Lag' and 'Push'

Once you master the grid, you can learn to play 'behind' or 'ahead' of the beat for different emotional feels (like in Soul or Jazz). But you have to know where the beat is before you can move around it.
