Recording a great vocal is 10% equipment and 90% environment and performance. Here is how to get a 'Radio-Ready' sound in your bedroom.
1. The 'Duvet' Studio
If you don't have acoustic foam, record in front of an open closet full of clothes or hang a heavy duvet behind you. This kills the 'room sound' and gives you a dry, intimate recording, perfect for an Online Vocal Class demo.
2. Microphone Placement
Don't sing directly into the mic. Angle it slightly to the side to avoid 'Plosives' (the popping 'P' and 'B' sounds). Stay about 6-8 inches away for a balanced tone. This technical detail is a staple in our Best music classes.
3. The Art of Comping
Record the song 5-10 times. Then, take the best word or phrase from each 'Take' and stitch them together. Every hit song you hear is a 'Comp.' We teach you how to do this seamlessly in our affordable music classes production modules.
