Songwriting is a muscle. If you wait for 'inspiration' to strike, you might wait forever. The secret is to start with a constraint.
1. The 'Three Chord' Challenge
Pick three chords (e.g., G, C, D) and write an entire song using only those. Constraint breeds creativity.
2. Object Writing
Pick an object in your room (a clock, a withered flower, an old photograph) and write a song from its perspective. What has it seen? What does it feel?
3. Rhythm First
Instead of a melody, start with a drum loop or a unique clapping rhythm. Let the rhythm dictate the 'vibe' of the lyrics.
4. The 'Stolen' Title
Take a line from a book or a movie title and use it as your chorus. Build the story around that one central phrase.
5. Emotion Map
Pick an emotion (e.g., 'bittersweet nostalgia') and choose a Raag or a key that represents it. Write a melody that only uses the notes of that scale to stay within the emotional boundary.
